4 Tips to Transform a Small Space & Make it Feel BIGGER

  1. Scale

Go BIG. You’re going want to use bigger pieces than you think to make your home feel G E N E R O U S. Use a large rug. I recommend at least a 8x10 rug. DO NOT get a 5x7 rug for a 10x10 room (even if you have carpet, you need a rug!) Another trick is displaying large art. Large art will help your room feel bigger and grander.

  2. Color

Some people say painting a space white makes it feel larger. It’s true, especially for those spaces like the living room or kitchen. MAKE SURE to paint the trim, walls, and even floors all the SAME white. By keeping the color consistent, your eye doesn’t see a line. The same trick works with color, don’t be afraid of color…it helps to express personality!

  3. Draw Your Eyes Upward

One major way of drawing eyes upward is by hanging drapes all the way to the top of a low ceiling. This really pulls the eye up and makes the room feel taller. Install the rod as close to the ceiling as you can!

Check out the drapery done at this European Estate in Atlanta. Notice how high the drapery goes!

  4. Mirrors

Most people seem to know this trick! Mirrors are space expanding. They make a room feel bigger by bouncing light around. It can also seem like an additional window in the room!
